Barnsley Air Cadets Welcome The Queen and The Duke Of Edinburgh For Maundy Service

Today was a very auspicious occassion for 148 (Barnsley) Squadron Air Cadets. We were personally invited by South Yorkshire Lord Lieutenant David Moody to attend the Maundy Service at Sheffield Cathedral where Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were present to make the presentations.

Our role was to escort the recipients and their guests on to the special trams at Meadowhall and then again into the Cutlers Hall. We then provided a Lined Guard of Honour for the Royal party to arrive and depart from the Cathedral. This is a tremendous honour to be asked to fulfil this really important role and we are truly thankful for the opportunity for the air cadets of Barnsley.

The cadets and staff all worked hard and were on duty for a long time today and should be justly proud of their actions and efforts taken to prepare and on the day. Their reward was to see the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and to be proud to wear the uniform of the Air Training Corps in such a high profile event.

Very proud of all who took part and hopefully you will remember today for many years to come.
