FS Taylor Collects Gold DofE Award From Holyrood Palace

On the 5th of July, I received my official Gold Duke of Edinburgh from HRH Prince Edward. The presentation was held in Holyrood palace in Edinburgh. There were 12 large groups of various age ranges, my group consisted of cadets and former cadets from the Army Cadet Force and the RAF Air Cadets.

When we had signed in we were able to walk around the gardens and get our photos taken with the palace as the backdrop. When HRH Prince Edward arrived, we were organised into a semi-circles to allow for HRH to see all of the group at the same time. We were the third group that HRH visited and he asked questions about what we changed throughout our award and if we did Bronze, Silver then Gold, or direct Gold. I mentioned to HRH that I had changed all the sections of my Gold, but the one section that was a most notable change was my volunteering section, I told HRH that I volunteered with South Yorkshire Police dogs to get over my fear of dogs to which we both joked about it. When he moved on to the next group we were given our awards from our guest of honour Group Captain James Leggat OBE. It was a very proud day after all the effort I had put in to achieve all three of the duke of Edinburgh award levels.

Thanks to all the staff who supported me through all my awards over the years.
