Open Evening 2015

On the 10th July we welcomed honoured guests, parents and friends of the Squadron to our Annual Open Evening. We were honoured to welcome back to the Squadron Wing Commander Watson, an ex-148 Squadron cadet himself to be our guest of honour. We were really proud to share the evening with him and have a link for the cadets of today to be able to speak with a serving member of the Air Force that has had the same experiences they have.

During the evening we celebrated and presented eight First Class Cadet Certificates as a culmination of their initial training as probationary cadets. Several Annual trophies and certificates were also presented.

Following the formal parade the band did a demonstration in the parade square. There were displays of First Aid, DofE, Adventure Training, Flying, Radio etc around the unit for guests to look around.

The barbecue started after our parade and was well received by all. Thanks to our resident chef for a hard night of cooking.

We had various games and fundraising events which entertained everyone for the remaining part of the evening. Overall a memorable event which we hope all enjoyed.

My personal thanks go to the staff and Civilian Committee for their support and assistance in planning, organising and implementing everything needed for the evening to run so well. Also thanks to the cadets who came to help before parade and to all the cadets for attending with smart uniforms for the parade. You all worked hard and should be proud. Lastly thanks to the parents, guardians, friends and relatives for supporting the cadets and their cadet careers. Your support is greatly appreciated by the whole Squadron and most importantly the cadets.

We hope to see you next year.

Flt Lt Andy Williams RAF VR(T) Officer Commanding 148 (Barnsley) Squadron.
